About Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency

Sacramento is a unique blend of many communities and neighborhoods each with their own distinct characteristics. Some are thriving while others are in need of an infusion of resources to help restore and sustain their vitality.

The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency brings together funding resources and staff expertise to develop and implement innovative and creative strategies. We use these tools to help address housing and economic needs in low income communities and older commercial corridors in the City and County of Sacramento through effective community and business partnerships.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program (formerly known as Section 8) provides assistance to very low-income individuals and families to enable them to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private rental housing market. In Sacramento, the HCV program for the City and County of Sacramento (including all incorporated cities in the County) is operated by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) acting as the Housing Authority of the County of Sacramento. The HCV program includes both Tenant Based Vouchers and the Project Based Vouchers.

Additional Information

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program’s tenant-based wait list will be open from 12:01am on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 to 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Applications can be submitted at http://www.sacwaitlist.com for all open waitlists.

Mission Statement

In achieving the mission and goals of SHRA, we collaborate with community members, business owners, developers and other partners to plan and invest public funds in a variety of neighborhood and commercial projects that benefit Sacramento residents. Over many years, these projects have included streetscapes, lighting and other public infrastructure improvements; parks and community centers; mixed use and transit oriented developments and commercial facades. By strategically investing public funds, we stimulate additional private investment in jobs and housing in Sacramento's lower income neighborhoods.
