About Danville Housing Authority

The Housing Authority was formed by a request from the City of Danville in 1939 (via a Statement of Need) with the Approval of the State Housing Authority under the authority of the Federal government – Department of Housing and Urban Development. We are one of 3,200 Housing Authority’s in the country.

DHA is Federally Funded through an Annual Contributions Contract for Public Housing approximately $1.2MM Annual Subsidy for Public Housing, Tenant paid rent totals around $350,000 yearly – Total Revenue for Public Housing in FY 2007 was $1.8MM. Annual Capital Funding is around $800,000. This is a separate grant called the Capital Fund. It is formula driven by HUD. We do not receive any Cash from the City or the County for funding. We do receive a State of Illinois Grant form Department of Human Services for a little over $100,000. DHS also funds the Teen Reach grant that we share with Project Success, the YWCA, Hoopeston Multi Agency and Georgetown Catholic Charities. Our share of this grant is just a little over $43,000. The Illinois State Board of Education funds our Summer Feeding program that totals around $15,000 for he year. The Public Housing program is regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations and the local Admissions and Continued Occupancy Plan that is approved by the HUD field office on an annual basis.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Housing Authority of the City of Danville, Illinois is to assist low income families with safe, decent, sanitary and affordable housing; encourage active resident participation, and provide opportunities for self-improvement which may enhance the residents' self-confidence and economic self-sufficiency. We shall operate in an effective, ethical and professional manner, and will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies to accomplish this mission.
